2022 March Madness predictions: College basketball expert picks against the spread, odds for Round 2 games

The March Madness and 2022 NCAA Championship Marathon starts Sunday with 16 teams in action and only 8 spots left in this year’s Sweet 16 with an arc slowly forming after a frantic Saturday as eight teams secured places in the second weekend, Sunday marks the last day of The season’s opening weekend with a loaded roster set to kick off live in the afternoon on the East Coast.

Each game has a single number bet spread, which indicates that the entire list should be filled with close games. That includes Arizona – the only first seed in play on Sunday – although it is favored by 9.5 over TCU’s No. 9 for the biggest spread of the day.

Other competitions are expected to be much closer on paper. Heading the day’s title between seed No. 2 Duke and State of Michigan seed No. 7 is a Hall of Fame training battle with Mike Krzyzewski and Tom Izzo meeting. There is a closer than expected spread provided by the probability makers. The Blue Devils favor the ACC regular-season champions by 6.5 points over the Spartans despite Coach K’s 12-3 all-time record against Izzo as well as the ultimate advantage in talent.

To prepare you for the final day of Round Two, I invited our experts together for live and against-spread picks to help you pick your bow (and hopefully make some cheddar along the way). You can also check out our expert categories.

NCAA Championship: Round 2 picks

(4) Illinois vs (5) Houston

Sunday, 12:10 pm | CBS, March Madness Live: Illinois had to work its way out of a double-digit deficit against Chattanooga in the first round and ran away despite losing throughout 25 seconds of the game. It’s a stark contrast to Houston and its 14-point cruise after the UAB. But Eleni could not have played worse in attack, and Houston, with all his injuries, is due to some backtracking from the middle against a very talented side led by Brad Underwood. This seems like a situation where the wrong team is favored, so I’ll take the points with Illinois. Choose: Illinois +4.5

(2) Villanova vs (7) Ohio State

Sunday, 2:40 pm | CBS, March Madness Live: What Ohio State did in defense against the Loyola Chicago veterans in the first round shouldn’t be overlooked. Buckeyes have the goods to be a force on this end of the floor when they’re healthy, and they eventually get there. Paired with a top 15 attack led by rookie student Malaki Branham and superstar EJ Liddell, they loved to top the number against Villanova’s explosive attack that seemed rather surprisingly kind in Round 1 against Delaware. (2) Duke v (7) Michigan State

Sunday, 5:15 pm | CBS, March Madness Live: Duke’s defense throughout the season left something to be desired and played a key role in losing two of his first five games in March. However, this Blue Devils side has a lot of talent, and with five potential first-round players, I’m putting in the points and trusting Coach K to dominate Izzo in the head-to-head series with some relief. Sparty might keep this close, but not sure they have the horses to go the distance and keep them within number. Picking: Duke -6.5

(3) Wisconsin vs. (11) Iowa

Sunday, 6:10 pm | TNT, Marsh Madness Live: Questions about Badger star Johnny Davis’ health were not immediately answered in the first round as Wisconsin struggled against 14th seed Colgate as he opened Game 3 of 11. But Davis looked back to his old ways in the second half, finishing the match with 25 points in the win. And I signed big shots throughout the second half. The advantage it gives to Wisconsin combined with Iowa’s inconsistent offensive output makes me find the Badgers in this spot. Choose: Wisconsin-3

(3) Texas Tech vs. (11) Notre Dame

Sunday, 7:10 pm | TBS Channel, March Madness Live: Texas Tech’s #1 ranked defensive unit wasn’t the most impressive part of its first-round victory over Montana State. This discrimination belongs to her crime. The Reds scored 97 points in the win and six players – led by 20 Terrence Shannon Jr. and 20 from Bryson Williams – had at least 10 points while the team made 12 of 20 3-point attempts. I don’t expect them to keep shooting who – which Hot, but I expect Tech’s defense and increased hook could cover against an ND team that played a lot of basketball over the opening weekend. (2) Auburn v. (10) Miami (Florida).

Sunday, 7:45 pm | truTV channel, March Madness Live: Auburn lost four of her last nine games leading to the NCAA Championship but looked back to her old ways in the first round as Jacksonville State fought 80-61 and dominated the defense led by Walker Kessler’s nine-block performance. this is It appears that the Tigers were at one point #1 in all of the college hoops. I’m putting the number with them here against a Miami team that has a lot of brawlers but isn’t quite designed to take down the Tigers. Choose: Auburn -7.5

(3) Bordeaux vs (6) Texas

Sunday, 8:40 pm | TNT, Marsh Madness Live: The best of Texans this season has been really impressive and reminds us of some of Chris Bird’s top Texans tech teams. It hasn’t been a consistently good team all year. Purdue has the staff to make the Longhorns pay if they don’t turn up their A game, and with duo Jaden Ivey and Zach Edey out of the big games, Boilermakers love. Picking: Bordeaux -3.5

(1) Arizona vs. (9) University of California

Sunday, 9:40 pm | TBS Channel, March Madness Live: The TCU shocked the lifeless Seton Hall in the first round, handing the Buccaneers their third worst NCAA tournament loss in program history. The Horned Frogs can stay in and out with just about anyone, and I expect they would do that against a really dangerous Arizona team that plays quickly and can control the field from both ends. This looks a lot like the Wildcats’ relaxed win with the late-game TCU cover. Picking: TCU +9.5
