Dante Fowler could have 3 ex-coachs recruit him to the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have some dilemma on their hands. Randy Gregory will likely leave via free agency, and while it’s not likely DeMarcus Lawrence is still likely to be a victim of the salary cap. If those things happen, it will be necessary to address the final defensive position at some point this season, whether that’s in a free agency or the 2022 NFL Draft, possibly both.

While its reboot with both DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory is still an option for the Cowboys, crafting a contingency plan in case this doesn’t happen would be a wise move on their part. That’s why they could have set their sights on the defensive end of free agent Dante Fowler, who was fired somewhat abruptly by the Atlanta Falcons a few weeks ago.

Fowler, 27, was signed to a three-year, $48 million deal in Atlanta in 2020. That deal came under the direction of Dan Quinn, then the Falcons coach, and he’s now entering his second year as Cowboys defense coordinator.

The association between Dan Quinn and Dante Fowler actually goes back well beyond their short time with the Atlanta Falcons. Surprisingly, Quinn was also Fowler’s position coach at the University of Florida, which according to Fowler led to their reunion in Atlanta.

“He definitely played a big role in that,” Fowler said. “We just built a relationship at the time. He always came and saw me and talked to me. Everything was real. He talked to me about a lot of things as a man. After a year with him at UF, I went to his house. I met his wife. I had Thanksgiving With them. ”

The connection between Dan Quinn and Dante Fowler alone puts 6’3″ and 255 pounds on the Cowboys’ radar if they can’t re-sign Randy Gregory or part ways with DeMarcus Lawrence. But having two other former coaches (Joe Witt Jr., Aden Dordey) working with the Cowboys This link reinforces.

With all that in mind, the Dallas Cowboys looks like a very good place to land former Jaguars, Rams and Falcons. In fact, the Cowboys have been named one of Dante Fowler’s top three occasions according to Justin Melo of The Draft Network.

Fowler played for current Cowboys defense coordinator Dan Quinn in Atlanta in 2020, where Quinn was part of the system that awarded Fowler a lucrative three-year contract with the Falcons. Several other coaches from that team who worked with Fowler at Atlanta Queen followed to Dallas, including current Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Dordey and secondary coach Joe Waite Jr.

Things didn’t go well with Fowler and Quinn in Atlanta, but there’s a reason Quinn knew him as a perfect fit to defend him in the first place. The Cowboys may have to do some out-of-season bargain hunting, and Fowler makes sense if they lose one or two designated passing forwards.

Dante Fowler may or may not have three of his former coaches recruit him in Dallas, but in the end it will turn out what the Cowboys decide to do with DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory, and whether or not they consider him a worthy Plan B option if things don’t go the way that they want. All we can do now is sit back and wait and see what happens.
