Finally, the Disc Golf Pro Tour has announced the points-earning structure for the 2022 season that players will navigate as they strive to earn a place – and perhaps a farewell – at the DGPT tournament in October.

For the first time, major tournaments will offer DGPT Points, and their value will be 1.5 times the same as the DGPT Elite Series event. The last two events in the year prior to the DGPT tournament – the Green Mountain Championships and the MVP Open – will be DGPT events with a smaller field size and 1.25x points available to players.

Here’s the key points structure in 2022:

  • DGPT Elite Series (regular season): 100%
  • DGPT Qualification: 125%
  • PDGA MPO / FPO Main: 150%
  • DGPT Silver Chain: 25%

The top 100 MPO players and the top 50 FPO players in the DGPT standings will gain entry to the Green Mountain Championships, the first playoff event. The best 64 MPO and top 32 FPO will be entered in MVP Open. Tour director Jeff Spring said there will still be regional event qualification opportunities for players outside of the cut-off periods.

The DGPT tournament, as in 2021, will host 32 MPO players and 16 FPO players. This year, though, only the top 30 MPOs and 14 FPOs enter automatically. The last two places in each division will be contested in a play event that features the next winners in the standings along with four additional players, reserved for those who won an Elite Series or Major event but did not qualify directly for the Tour Championship.

This is the first year of a new unified tour after the PDGA National Tour entered the DGPT. Previously, there were multiple paths to earning points, and major subjects did not affect the ranking in any of the season’s long point structures.

Match Play Tournament Information

As part of the points structure announcement, DGPT also revealed the dates and venue of the second annual Match Play Championship: June 16-19 in Bailey, Colorado, a town near Denver located in the Rocky Mountains at 7,700 feet. Billy Disk Golf Course will host the event located between the Portland Open (Portland, Oregon) and the Prefecture (Clearwater, MN).

16 players each in MPO and FPO qualify to play in the Match Play Tournament. All Elite Series tournament winners will receive an automatic invite, with the remaining spots moving to the top players in the standings after the OTB Open in mid-May.

The 2022 DGPT season begins next Thursday, February 24, at the Las Vegas Challenge.
