  • Jane Fonda, 83, says she is “so happy” with her decision to turn gray in a new interview with Ellen Degeneres.

  • “It’s already wasted so much time, so much money spent, so many chemicals – we’re done with that,” she said.

Jane Fonda’s gray hair is here to stay. In a new interview with Ellen Degeneres, Grace and Frankie the star talked about her decision to embrace her natural color at the age of 83 – and she feels completely liberated.

“I tell you, I’m so happy I let it turn gray,” Fonda told Degeneres. “It’s already wasted so much time, so much money spent, so many chemicals – that’s it.”

Although Fonda has shaken up all sorts of colors and styles over the years, we have to admit that this amazing silver is our favorite. Last year, the actress and activist began her hair transformation at the Oscar 2020 awards, sending Twitter into a frenzy. She paired it with a recycled red dress and it just looked fabulous, of course.

Fonda’s hairstylist Jack Martin spent 7 hours turning Fonda’s hair from her iconic blonde to sophisticated silver. Martin wrote on Instagram that the look was inspired by her salt and pepper roots. “The rest was a hot, tired golden blonde,” he said. “Her target color was a frozen silver blonde to surprise everyone at the 2020 Oscars.”

But Fonda’s hair isn’t the only major change she’s making when it comes to looks; she also promised never to buy a new item of clothing. As a long-time activist, her recent focus has been on climate change (and the fashion industry plays a major role in waste and water consumption).

“Do you see this coat? I needed something red and I went out and found this coat at a discount. This is the last item of clothing I will ever buy, “she said during a November 2019 protest on Capitol Hill.

Looks like he’s still keeping his word. When she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2021 Golden Globes, Fonda told Degeneres she would have a recycled outfit, as she did for the 2020 Oscars.

“I’d rather wear this kind of outfit than dress,” Fonda said of her red jogging suit. “We spend too much money, we buy too much and then we get rid of it. We’re trying to develop our identity through shopping, aren’t we? We have to stop this, stop all this consumption. “

“So I had to go through my closet and find something that still fits me and I wore it,” she added. “It simply came to our notice then. I’m ready.”
