However, nearly 24 hours later, a photo doing the rounds tells another story. Posted by Celtics but seen earlier on Paul Pierce’s Instagram.

History of the feud between Allen and Garnett

The feud between Allen and Garnett goes back nearly a decade when Allen chose to leave the Celtics for their Heat rival as a free agent in the 2012 offseason.

When the two teams met to open the 2012-13 NBA season, Allen greeted his former teammates and coaches, but Garnett couldn’t accept Allen’s attempt to get over things, staring softly as his former teammate patted him on the shoulder.

When the members of the 2008 Celtics Championship team reunited on Garnett’s “Area 21” in 2017, Allen was glaringly absent. Garnett spoke of Allen’s absence, saying, “When Ray decided to go to the Heat, I felt like he just kept going and went to catch up on another ring and got another ring – yell to him. And that’s it.”

One year later, Allen addressed the ongoing feud, saying that Garnett had “forgotten the genesis” of their relationship, which dates back to before their time as teammates.

Back in August, it appeared Garnett was still having trouble with Allen, and strategically extracted it from a photo he shared on his Instagram story.

However, in October, the announcement of the NBA 75 seemed to fix things between the two, with Garnett giving Allen a shout-out on his Instagram Story to name the team throughout.

Perhaps the two of them didn’t know how to properly get to know each other in this place or, more likely, the remnants of their grudges lingered after nearly 10 years.

No matter why the two of them had this kind of lack of interaction during the ceremony, it was hard to watch in real time.
