March Madness 2022 – The best action, moments, surprises and more from Saturday’s NCAA Championship

March Madness on Friday calmed down a bit with higher seeds mostly concerned with business. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Miami Hurricanes and Iowa State Cyclones were the only double-digit seeded teams to advance to the NCAA 2022 tournament on the second day of the tournament. Meanwhile, the Auburn Tigers, Villanova Wildcats, and Bordeaux Bordeaux all had big wins.

Heading into the round of 32 on Saturday, our two biggest Cinderellas will be looking to keep their dreams of the championship alive. Peter, who upset second-seeded Kentucky in the first round, faces Murray State. The 12-5 group winners, Richmond and New Mexico State, face Providence and Arkansas, respectively.

Creighton and Kansas are going back and forth

The underdogs came to play today against the top seed. Creighton is matching a Kansas game with a shot, rocking it from behind the arc despite coming out 5 of 43 of 3 in the previous two games together.

UNC hanging on

The Tar Heels had a 25-point lead in the final minutes, but the 8-seed UNC team heads into the Sweet 16 after upsetting top seed, and reigning national champion, Baylor in the round of 32. It’s North Carolina’s ninth win against the NCAA top seed, which ties (( of all schools) Duke most of the time.

UNC goalkeeper RJ Davis played the champ this time, dropping 30 points with six assists and five rebounds. Davis had only nine points combined in his previous two NCAA Championship games. He also got props from Trae Young on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the North Carolina women’s basketball team was excited to watch the game in their hotel lobby.

Baylor is the fifth consecutive National Champion not to make the opening weekend. Virginia fell to Ohio State in 2021 and Villanova lost in the round of 32 in 2019 in 2017. Is the other defender losing in the round of 32 lately? North Carolina. The end result here is a massive number of brackets that have been tuned.

We’re going to work overtime!

Saturday’s first game was a highly ambiguous one, as Baylor engineered a 25-point comeback to tie it against UNC. RJ Davis’ attempt to hit the bell failed and the match would be decided in overtime.

Don’t call it a comeback?

Baylor is not over yet. They’re on a 20-4 run in Texas, during which time the Tar Heels spin the ball seven times, cutting UNC’s lead to number one. This feels like it’s going down the wire.

Things are getting out of hand in Texas

Armando Bacot steals the hits. Davis 24 points. Baylor slipped by over 20 in round 32 and time was running out to turn things around.

upset alert?

RJ Davis continues to dominate – he’s got 17 in half – and Baylor is in real trouble in the 32nd round of the match against UNC. Tar heel 42-29 in the first half. This is the most points Baylor has allowed in the first half in the past three seasons. The last time Baylor overcame a first-half double deficit to win again was in 2019, against Texas.

Davis is burning outside the gate

Tar heel guard RJ Davis missed his first shot in game #8 UNC against #1 Baylor, but then managed a 3-pointer and 2-long shot in quick succession. He picked up his first eight points at North Carolina as the Heels try to pull off a surpriseβ€”having scored a combined nine points in their first two NCAA games at UNC.

Peacock has a fan club

Saint Peter shattered many arches with the Kentucky Solstice. He gained followers and fans at UMBC, who in 2018 became the only 16th seed to defeat the top seed in the tournament.
