Ratings: NBA-ABC, NASCAR, NHL, and more

ABC’s . Reviews Tour NBA Saturday Peak I finished with two numbers from the last two years; NASCAR scored a minor bump in Phoenix. The NHL Heritage Classic jumped on the previous version; and more.

The NBA Championship ends on Saturday from ABC from the past two years

ABC . letters NBA Saturday Peak Viewers averaged 2.98 million this season, up 32% from last year and 26% from the past two years. Last weekend’s season-ending Bucks-Warriors averaged 1.6 and 2.89 million, ranking fifth out of seven Saturday nights windows.

In other games, ABC averaged 1.5 and 2.63 million for the Mavericks-Celtics and 1.1 and 1.85 million for the Knicks-Nets last Sunday. ESPN’s Lakers-Suns nightcap earned 1.0 and 1.77 million, up significantly from last year (Clippers-Pelicans: 0.6, 1.01M, revision pending) despite an unbalanced first-quarter margin of 26 points.

Turning to the workweek, ESPN attracted 1.62 million to Nuggets-Sixers (+44%, pending review) and 1.41 million to Bucks-Jazz (+10%, pending review) Monday night; and 1.60 million for the Celtics and 1.25 million for the Mavericks nets on Wednesday.

NASCAR Phoenix audience reaches inches

Last Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race from Phoenix averaged 2.3 ratings and 3.99 million viewers on FOX, consistent in ratings and a 2% increase in viewership over last year, but down 14% and 13%, respectively, from the past two years. Chase Briscoes, which peaked with 4.9 million viewers, tops last year only as the least-watched version of the race.

Even if it’s on the low side, the race was followed only by the NCAA Tournament Selection Show as the most watched sports broadcast of the weekend.

In another measure, the corresponding Xfinity Series race drew 0.7 (fixed) and 1.09 million (-9%, revision pending) in FS1 last Saturday.

NHL Heritage Classic is higher than the previous version

Last Sunday’s outdoor Maple Leafs-Sabers NHL Heritage Classic game averaged 0.21 and 348,000 viewers on TNT, a 98% increase in viewership over the previous Heritage Classic game in 2019, a Saturday night game on NBCSN (Flames-Jets). : 176K). TNT also pulled 499,000 for Bruins-Wild (+11%, review pending) and 211,000 for Lightning-Kraken (+52%, review pending) last Wednesday.

In another NHL move, the Flyers-Hurricanes averaged 0.42 and 743,000 in last weekend’s edition of ABC Hockey Saturday.

Plus: a women’s choice show; players; Paralympic Games

Last Sunday’s NCAA women’s basketball show averaged 1.19 million viewers on ESPN, the largest audience for the event since 2005. It was previously broadcast Monday night. …the rain-delayed Monday Players Championship final round averaged 1.35 million viewers on The Golf Channel, with the third round wrapping up as viewers reached 302,000 earlier in the day. Weekend coverage on NBC averaged 1.6 and 2.56 million last Saturday and 1.8 and 2.91 million last Sunday, the latter being the smallest audience for a Championship Sunday in at least 20 years. … The Beijing Winter Olympics averaged 165,000 viewers across NBC and the USA, a 62% increase over 2018 on NBC and NBCSN (102K). That includes 1.34 million for prime-time coverage on NBC on March 11, the largest audience ever for a Winter Olympics television broadcast.
