Smallville Star Shares Update on Animated Sequel Series
Tom Welling updates fans on his and Michael Rosenbaum’s planned animated continuation of Smallville, which is currently in development.
Actor Tom Welling shared a new update about the progress of his and former co-star Michael Rosenbaum’s planned animated continuation of Smallville.
“We’re working on an animated series that picks up right after us Smallville [Season 10] and, again, telling our own story and our vision is that we get Erica [Durance]Might It might be tough to get Allison [Mack] … But even Sam Jones III [who played Pete Ross] and Lionel Luthor is going to be a big part of that. John Glover wants to do it, we’ve already been into this. “

Welling, who portrayed Clark Kent in all 10 seasons of Smallvillealso revealed they’ve already figured out the animation for the project, but haven’t figured out the storytelling yet because the show’s original creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar “are busy doing like Tim Burton movies and stuff.”
“As soon as they are done with that, we’re going to do this. I want to be Clark’s voice, I want Erica to be Lois’ voice, that’s going to be the fun of it,” Welling continued. “I think there’s a story that Al and Miles are going to tell that’s individual and new and call it a Multiverse thing. But let’s see where it goes, and it’ll be fun so yeah.”

Welling’s latest comments come a few months after he and Rosenbaum confirmed the animated Smallville project was in development. “Well, look, we’re not really allowed to talk about it now, because it’s in the early stages. So we’re developing it,” Rosenbaum said at the time. “We’re trying to see what happens with it, but that’s about all I can say right now.” Welling added, “We can’t talk about it, but we would love to.”
The original Smallville series premiered on The WB (now The CW) in 2001 and ran for 217 episodes across 10 seasons, ending in 2011. The series starred Welling as the teenage version of Clark Kent and showed the future Man of Steel growing up in the fictional Kansas town of Smallville. The series also depicted the evolution of Clark’s relationship with eventual foe Lex Luthor, who was portrayed by Rosenbaum, as well as his friendships with Chloe Sullivan (Mack), Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) and Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley). The series ended with Clark finally taking up the mantle of Superman.
CBR will continue to provide updates about the Smallville animated series as they become available. In the meantime, Smallville: The Complete Series is currently on Blu-ray and all 10 seasons are streaming now on Hulu.
