Southeast Spring Football Practice Report (3/19/22)
Hammond, Los Angeles – Frank Skelvo, head coach of Southeast Louisiana University football, was pleased with his team’s performance during the first weeks of spring training.
Thursday’s practice session saw the Lions working on short yards and the red zone. Scelfo saw positive signals on both sides of the ball.
“We wanted to get more physical this spring, and we’re really starting to see that evolution,” Scelfo commented. “The defense really made some big plays in the third, short positions and the goal line early (Thursday), but our attack came back and dominated at the end of the practice. They reacted well every day and we’re ‘replaying with good energy’.
Scelfo was reluctant to identify any commendation site groups or as areas in need of work.
“We’re just looking for consistency across the board,” Scelfo commented. “We have a lot of new faces that we are evaluating and putting in different places to see where they fit in. We don’t have any starters at the moment and everyone is vying for a starting point. Our guys know they have to do every bit of training to earn playing time.”
Lions will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. through April 9. SLU, one of six FCS schools that have ranked 25th in national polls in each of the past three seasons, will open the 2022 season at UL Lafayette on September 3.
