The Raptors defeat the Rockets after a historic comeback

For their final home game of the regular season, the Raptors played on the emotions of the fans at Scotiabank Arena. Very dominated in the first half, with a differential that amounted to +24, Nick Nurse’s men recovered after the break, and finally achieved, after an excellent “money-time”, the third biggest comeback in the history of the franchise.

Bad on defense for three quarters, the Raptors raised the tone in the last act (7/17 shooting for Houston), as did the excellent defense of Pascal Siakam (29 points on 12/24 shooting, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals) on the Rockets’ final possession, a low-post tie by rookie Alperen Sengun.

With this win, and thanks to Chicago’s parallel loss to Charlotte, Toronto is guaranteed to finish 4th or 5th in the Eastern Conference. They will challenge the Celtics or the Sixers.

WHAT TO REMEMBER

– The Houston Paradox. The Rockets did not lose the match… well, they still dominated the Raptors in the majority of the statistical categories: 53.1% against 45.8%, 50 returns against 46, 24 passes against 20. The categories in the Raptors ont l’ advantage ? Interceptions (13 against 6) and blocks (4 against 3). In other words, defense, not the Rockets’ cup of tea.

– End of series for Jalen Green. After five straight games with 30 or more points, the Rockets rookie could match Allen Iverson. Unfortunately for him, he failed completely, unable to shake the web of the Raptors, a very large and athletic formation. Nick Nurse wisely made the decision to consistently place a player taller than himself (Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam and even Precious Achiuwa) against Jalen Green.

TOPS/FLOPS

Pascual Siakam. Another great match for the Cameroonian, who finished the season very well. Not far from the triple-double (29 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists), the strong winger led the attack of his formation, and signed the decisive defensive action in the final seconds. He has been playing at the level of late he did during his breakout 2019/20 season, much to the delight of Raptors fans, who are campaigning, under the moniker “PascALL-NBA,” for their star to be awarded in one of the All the NBA team soon.

Kevin Porter Jr.. While Jalen Green, his friend “behind the court”, hid, “KPJ” delivered a very good copy: 35 points (12/23 and 7/7 free throws) and 10 assists! Naturally drawn to scoring, the former Cavaliers player strives to involve his teammates as much as possible in Houston, where he plays point guard. Against the Raptors’ largely permissive defense that night, he did brilliantly.

jose christopher. Seen more often in the G-League than in the NBA this season, the former Arizona state resident is taking advantage of the Rockets’ undisputed season to introduce himself for the upcoming season. In half an hour of play from the bench, he compiled 20 points (9/12), 5 rebounds and 4 assists).

⛔️ pull green. Complicated afternoon for the second chosen in the last draft, who stops his counter by 8 points, in 3/10 in shots. Rather on pace in the first quarter, he then disappeared, unable to sway the Rockets’ offense until late in the game.
