Wimbledon 2022 results: schedule, results, draw, how to watch, TV channel as Serena Williams falls in Round 1

Wimbledon 2022 officially kicks off. The All England Club is already seeing some excitement, including the return of Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams.

Second seed Nadal is competing at Wimbledon for the first time in three years. He got his first two sets against Francisco Cerondolo on Tuesday but struggled in the third and the start of the fourth. The veteran shook it and won 16 of his last 19 points to take his 306th big game win by leading 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

On Monday, No. 1 Novak Djokovic was forced into four sets during his first-round match against Sunwon Kwon. However, he still took care of the business and advanced with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory on Central Court. This result helped Djokovic become the only player to have scored at least 80 wins in all four Grand Slam events.

On the same day, No. 5 seed Carlos Alcaraz came up late and took a five-set win over Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff. On the women’s side, Serena Williams held court for the first time since the 2021 edition of Wimbledon. Players of Russian or Belarusian nationality are not allowed to play in the tournament. Wimbledon made this decision in April After Russia invaded Ukraine. As a result of the ban, some of the sport’s top players will miss Wimbledon, including men’s world number one Daniil Medvedev and women’s world number six Arina Sabalenka.
